PHYSICAL ACTIVITY GROUP PROGRAMS

TAI CHI GROUPS

Sun Style Tai Chi is a gentle low-impact form of exercise that can benefit the whole body.

Tai Chi improves your range of mobility, flexibility, strength and balance as well as being beneficial to general health, especially relaxation and posture. Tai Chi also reduces the risk of falls.

Tai Chi groups are conducted at various venues across Mount Alexander and they are suitable for all levels and all ages including beginners and older people.

STRENGTH TRAINING AND EXERCISE GROUPS

Strength training involves progressive resistance training specifically designed to improve bone density, strength, flexibility, balance, energy and vitality.

Castlemaine District Community Health offers a range of groups for men and women of all ages. Some groups are self-help and others are led by a Physiotherapist.

An initial assessment may be required.

HEARTSMART 'PLUS' Cardiac Rehab Phase 3

Heartsmart 'PLUS' is a gentle exercise program for maintenance of heart heath, mobility and fitness for older people and/or anyone who may benefit from this form of exercise.

This group is led by a Physiotherapist.

COMMUNITY GYM

Community Gym is a great way to kick start or maintain your fitness. Come along and complete your individual exercise program with the support of an Exercise Physiologist.

An individual appointment & assessment with the Exercise Physiologist is required prior to joining the program, so every participant will be provided with their own personalised exercise program.

WALKING GROUPS

There are a range of walking groups supported by Castlemaine District Community Health, providing short, medium and long walks.

NUTRITION & WEIGHT MANAGEMENT GROUP PROGRAMS

Castlemaine District Community Health offers a range of services to increase people's understanding of diet and nutrition, including cooking demonstrations, supermarket tours and weight management groups

These services and programs are all provided by an Accredited Practising Dietitian.

MENTAL HEALTH GROUP PROGRAMS

The Counselling Team from time to time offers group programs around common issues such as Parenting, Depression, Separation and Divorce. Groups can be a great way for people to share their experiences and solutions and build supports that can last a lifetime.

CHILDREN & FAMILY GROUP PROGRAMS

TUNING IN TO KIDS - Emotionally Intelligent Parenting

Castlemaine District Community Health runs the 6-week program - Tuning in to Kids in Castlemaine.

The Tuning in to Kids parenting program teaches parents and carers:

The research evaluation of Tuning in to Kids found that when parents learned these parenting skills, this was related to improvements in children's emotional competence, social skills and behaviour.

For children with behaviour or anxiety problems, the program is particularly effective.

MT ALEXANDER DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP

These information sessions have regular guest speakers, covering all aspects of diabetes and its management. The group provides a forum for self-help and social support in self managing your diabetes.

Meetings are held at Castlemaine District Community Health, on the first Wednesday of every month, between 2 - 3pm (except in December which is our Christmas meeting, held at a local venue. Please check with reception).
